Gareth Raven T of T 2019

This iconic event, which was re-launched by Sports Tours International in 2015, returned again in 2019. The first race was founded by Dr Ron Hill MBE in 1983. The week-long event, run in 4 different Tameside locations, was a huge success, enjoyed by people throughout the borough and beyond.

This year, the Tour of Tameside consists of 4 races on consecutive days, including: the X-Trail 10k, Hell on the Fell, Hero Half Marathon and Dr Ron Hyde 7 mile.

Our very own Gareth Raven, although now over 45 shows no sign of slowing down, giving the eventual winner Mo Aburezeq a run for his money. Only 18 seconds divided them on leg 1. and the overall difference at the end of the tour was only 3 minutes. Gareth was 2nd with 3:08:39 with Mo first in 3:05:43.

Other Sale Harriers who took up the challenge included Robert Fairbanks who was 2nd M40, Jenny Fox 2nd F40, Tracey Taylor 8th F35 and Lynda Rowlinson who was 3rd F55. Mark Fox was going well after 2 races but was not able to complete the final 3.

Wendy Terry did the 10k in 47:23 and Beth Louise Newton did 50:40.
