Sale Sizzlers

Thursday the 27th June, 11th and 25th July and 8th August 2019

Wythenshawe Park Track

Welcome to the 2019 Sale Sizzlers 4 x 5k. The dates are Thursday’s 7.30pm on June 27th, July 11th & 25th and August 8th.

1. Entries are now open. Go for it! Log onto ....and hope you’ve a great summer of 5k racing! Or download an entry form.

 2. Promotional leaflets/entry forms are now available in your running clubs and widely distributed at local races, Parkruns, Leisure centres etc. Get in touch with me if you want to promote on this flysheet as many do every year. These promoters also have authorization to promote at all the four races.

 3. Unfortunately, we’ have been unable to secure a financial sponsor this year (so far). Do you know anybody who might be interested? What an excellent opportunity they’d have!

 4. Click here to view a map displaying the new common start and finish with the directional indicators. Get yer head down for that final 350m blitz....and a PB.

5.  To support UKA efforts to enhance inclusivity in sport, this year’s Sizzlers will have a new gender neutral ‘non-binary’ category designated on the entry forms and website by ‘Mx’. The Sizzlers welcome non binary runners. Non-binary times will not be captured in the overall results but, for the present they’ll not be captured for ranking purposes. Because this is the first year introducing this new category, only a 1 st prize of £25 will be awarded providing there is a minimum of three entries. This will be kept under review and we value feedback from those participants and non-binary people generally.

6. The new start/finish is the opportune time to also launch a new era for course records (banking the old ones). This year’s targets are last year’s fastest times. Lots of new incentives!

7. Prize money is increased again this year with the usual additional financial rewards for super fast times and course records.

8.  Keep an eye on the Sizzler Facebook page for news, information, post race photos, comments, feedback and your questions.

See below for 2019 course records.

Sizzling news is we’ve ‘tweaked’ the course to now have a common start and finish located close to the 400m start line. You’ll use lane 1 inbound. Outbound you’ll run clockwise and inbound anti clockwise. It was Confucius who said, “ To grow is to change, to become perfect is to have changed often” so hope it’s even faster with that final 350m ‘blast’ to the finish when you get back onto the track.

In conjunction with this tweak, I’ve decided to also launch a new era for course records. The Sizzlers hold amazing, nationally ranking 5k records (that’s how fast the course is)but several are reasonably out of reach so to give you a new impetus we’ll bank’ the current ones and begin a new era with last year’s fastest times.

Every year without exception in the Sizzler’s 18 year history we’ve broken records for entries, finishers, and the money raised for St. Ann’s hospice. This year, with your support again, we’ll do the same again. Please sell the Sizzlers among your work colleagues, friends etc. so the Sizzlers continue to sizzle.
