SENIOR & VETERAN MEN/WOMEN
If you're a senior or veteran runner this is likely to be your training venue (though our faster/elite guys train at the track at Wythenshawe Park). A 'veteran' is a male over 40 years and female over 35 years).
It's important to emphasize you don't have to be an elite athlete to participate in training sessions from Crossford Bridge. This venue caters for all abilities and age-groups in distances from 5k to marathons and for road, cross-country, and fells.(The difference between this and the Wythenshawe site is that Wythenshawe caters for more talented groups. You will be recommended to join them if you are fit enough).
If you'd like to come along for a few weeks without commitment and try the training, you'll also be most welcome. To be pointed in the right direction click here to contact Fechin Mc Cormick or telephone 0161 972 5715. Do this as soon as possible so we can assess your ability; determine your best training group and appropriately direct you. There are three main weekly training sessions based at Crossford Bridge all designed to maximise your fitness and develop your ability.
Sessions start at 7pm prompt (so be in plenty of time) and last around an hour. They are endurance based designed to maximise your fitness for distances from 5k upwards. They can be road sessions in and around Sale (especially in the winter) or on local trails and parks of the Mersey Valley depending on weather conditions, time of year and the training session. They are a combination of longish runs (approx 6 - 9 miles) and/or interval work designed to get the most from your ability. By knowing before hand what to expect, you can be mentally prepared for the session and able to check out the route beforehand if necessary. For the winter months, ensure you wear reflective clothing.
The group meet outside the clubhouse at 6.45pm for 7pm start; a further quick explanation of the training session and then set off. Contact Paul Barrett who manages this training session at Barrett_Paul@hotmail.co.uk or tel: 07890 818 702.
Thursday's training sessions are usually on the cinder track though there's also the opportunity for a longish run for those who prefer this. Track sessions can be a series of repetitions varying in distance from 200m-1,500m. All abilities are welcome, the number and quality depends on your ability and fitness and will be determined by the coach, Morris Jefferson beforehand. For further information Morris can be contacted on 0161 969 3329. These sessions are recommended to maximise potential and speed/ speed endurance.
If you plan to participate in them, arrive about 7.00pm to give yourself plenty of time to warm-up by jogging several laps of the track and for toileting etc. The sessions start promptly at 7.30pm
