MACCL Match 1 Young Athletes
The cross country season started in earnest for our young athletes with a home match in Wythenshawe Park. Our girls were in great form with team victories in all three age-groups. SARA CLOUGH had an outstanding run to finish 3rd in the U13 girls race and with twin sister AVA and IZZY APPLEBY made a great start to retaining a team title we have held for four years. Our B team of HOLLY NEWTON, IZZY KERRISON and TIA GROVER performed well to finish 3rd in their category
IZZY BURKE ran exceptionally well after a lengthy lay off due to injury to finish 3rd in the U15 girls race, just in front of LAURE KIDIKULA who had her best ever cross-country race whilst KIRSTEN MACKIE finished 7th on her club debut. We not only won the team race but also finished runners-up due to fine runs by AKIRA EDGSON, OLIVIA BROWN, and JASMINE STOCKTON. Our best performance by a female athlete came from JESS SPILSBURY who was a comfortable winner of the U17 ladies race and teamed up with BETH THORNTON and LAURA HOLE to win the team race. Our top performer in the boy’s races was JACK SPARK who recently ran the fastest lap of the day in the Northern Road Relay Championships in which our team were 3rd.
At Wythenshawe, Jack won the U13 boy’s race and teamed up with FREDDIE MEREDITH (an excellent 5th) and ED LORD for a comfortable team victory. Our B team had finished first B team in the Northern Road Relay Championships and won again due to fine runs from JOSH COLQUHOUN-LYNN, JACK BATTEN and GEORGE NOBLE. Well done to GEORGE SAFRANAUSKAS and TOM SHAW, the U17’s two representatives.
We showed great depth in the U15 boy’s race finishing 3 teams with the A team finishing 3rd. Well done to WILL STANWAY, ROBBIE RIGBY, and JOTHAM BENABENI, LUKE CHINOY, ALEX JAMES, WILL PARKER, ZAC GAILLEMIN, ARCHIE Mc CARRON, BEN DARGAN and CHARLIE TITTENSOR.
Four team victories from six events was a great way to start the season. Congratulations to team managers DAVE MARSH and LISA FLETCHER and to DAVE RODGERS and his team who organised the event.
