YDL (LOWER) NORTHERN PREMIER (4)
The club’s U13 and U15 team at the start of the season were the reigning National Champions and had won the Northern title ten times in eleven years. After the 4th and final match at Bebington we’ve lost our Northern title to a very strong Preston AC team. We and Preston will now represent the North in the National Final in Bedford on September 8th where we hope to retain our national title.
Our U15 athletes were in great form. MARCUS Mc CLEAN again won an outstanding sprint double. Marcus is having a great season winning the silver medal in the English Schools Championships and also equalling the National YDL League record, held by our own World Junior sprint champion JONA EFOLOKO. LAZARUS BENJAMIN was a clear winner in the pole-vault after vaulting a new club record of 3.75m last week to win the English Schools title. English Schools 200m champion SUCCESS EDUAN won her fourth successive YDL sprint double whilst BASIL ZOLA took part in four events, winning three of them.
Twins EVAN & ELLIOT SAVAGE both ran PB’s to win their 800m races in almost identical times. Hurdlers SOFIJA DRAJAGIC-WOOD and HERMIONE MASON both recorded outstanding PB’s of 11.5 seconds whilst Hermione also ran a PB to win her 800m race. Further victories in the U15 events came from ABRAHAM FOBIL, JOE HERBERT, MACKENA BRADSHAW, OSA ODEMWENGIE, MELISSA BOOTH, ELLIE WOLFENDEN and JOTHAM BENABENI. Jotham, who made his club debut, is trained within the Diane Modahl Sports Foundation as is ABRAHAM FOBIL and LAURE KIDUKULA who missed the club record by just 0.1 seconds in finishing 2nd in the girl’s 300m.
Primary age athletes do not usually gain selection for our U13 teams but this year is an exception with a number of athletes not only being selected but winning their events. Primary age winners in this match were SARA CLOUGH, OSCAR SCHOFIELD and IRIS Mc CARRON who all ran PB’s plus AVA CLOUGH and HOLLY GARNER. A special thanks to Holly and TIA GROVER who not only ran well in their usual sprint events but also acted as last minute stand-in’s in unfamiliar events (hurdles and high jump). FREDDIE MEREDITH ran an outstanding 800m to finish runner-up. All these athletes are a credit to the Primary section.
ANNABEL AMADIN won the shot by over a metre with a throw of 10.58m which is just 2 centimetres short of her own club record. Further under 13 victories came from EBONY ROBINSON, JASMINE REED, NATACHI NWOSU, HARRIS PATERSON, JACK BATTEN and JOSH COLQUHOUN-LYNN whilst LEONARDO SCOTT again competed successfully in four events.
A massive thanks to our officials who again added the maximum 55 points to our total and to team managers CARL WORTHINGTON, DAVE MARSH and SARAH JAMES
