Some great racing in the British Athletics League in London, amongst them some good running from Dave Marsh in both B 3000m and 3000m Steeplechase races.
Also a Team win in the Northern Track League at Connas Quay. Nigel Martin wins at 1500m and 5,000m with a big PB 16:34, for Ken Hunt winning the B 5000m race. Sinead Freguson was quite prolific across a range of events, and a good 3000m debut from Julia Reynolds.
Sunday 6th. Katherine Wood 1st Lady in the Great Northern 10k Road Race in Mickleover, Derby. 10th overall in a comfortable 36:54 PB.
Also on Sunday Jane Thomas won the Lakeland Trail 10k and with a great 25th overall. Whilst in the 18k Rob Dunn, was 11th, passing Steve Henderson near the end.
Chris Donnelly asked me not to mention him and Steve McCarron, going wrong whilst in 2nd and 3rd places in the Bollington Fell Race. So I won't write a report, but it is always good to know which is your left and right hand, when taking a turn.
Tuesday : Round the Runway, Mobberley Dave Marsh 2nd.... Sarah Douglas 2nd lady, Clare McCarron 3rd lady ,Sinead 1st v40 (first ever category win yay!) Aidan Raftery 1st m50....And loads of other fab results. Sale Ladies won team prize, whilst the Men were 2nd.
At the Mad Hatters 5 mile trail race, Ben McIntyre was the first Sale Harrier over the line in 4th position with a time of 31:00, with Steven Townley close behind in 7th position with 31:32 and Jon Terry in 18th position with 33:30 to win the male team prize. Katherine Wood, fresh off her recent Great Northern 10k women’s race win over the weekend and, in her own words, ‘taking it easy’, came home as 2nd female in 33:05, while Jane Thomas(the winner of last weekend’s Kentmore Trail 10km women’s race) and Lydia Briggs had their own battle for 2nd and 3rd Sale women finishing with 37:03 and 37:16 respectively, the women’s team finishing 2nd overall to a strong Manchester University.
Individually, Aidan Raftery won the M55 race with 33:56 and his second race win in two days(!), while Jackie Cordingley won the F55 race with 39:15.
After a good Thursday night training session on the Wythenshawe Track, Katherine Wood went on Sunday to the Beaverbrook Blackpool 10K Road Race, for another low key race as part of a racing learning process. She ran a relaxed but controlled and competitive race for a Ladies win and 8th place overall, in another P.B. matching her current potential shown in training, with a fast 35:59. A fun local 10mile next weekend at her parents, hoping Charlotte Purdue doesn't turn up, then another fun day in a 100K Ultra, before a key goal race at half marathon in the Welsh Castles Relay.
