YDL Lower - Match 1
Youth Development League
The clubs u13 and u15 league team are the reigning National Champions and have won the Northern Premier title 10 times in 11 years. In our first match of the season at Leeds we came up against a very strong Preston team and suffered our first defeat in 5 years in a Northern Premier match. Our team performed well but we now know that winning an 11th Northern title will not be easy.
Our sprinters and hurdlers performed well with victories from Marcus McClean, Abraham Fobil, Aidan Lynch, Emmanuel Johnson, Success Eduan, Osa Odemwengie, Laure Kidukula, Sofaja Dragisic-Wood, Hermione Mason, Leonardo Scott, Natachi Nwosu and Lucy Herbert.
Our harrier tradition was upheld in the middle distance events with wins from Will Parker, James Kelly, Ruby Bell, Torin Lindsey, Freddie Meredith, Jack Spark and Josh Colquhoun-Lynn. The whole of the u13 girls middle distance squad was made up of primary aged athletes who all showed a mature attitude to competition and ran personal best performances. Well done to Sara Clough, Ava Clough, Tia Grover and Iris McCarron.
Our high jumpers and long jumpers performed well with wins from Basil Zola, Ellise Fryer-Francis and primary aged athlete Thea Brown (who competed with great success in 4 events!).
Wins in the throwing events came from Ella Gillespie and Jasmine Richardson. A special mention to Mackena Bradshaw who competed in 3 throws rather than his favoured high jump.
Our aim in the next match is to return to winning ways and beat Preston. This will not be easy and we will need the support of all athletes and coaches if we are to succeed. A massive thanks to our officials whose efforts added the maximum 55 points to our total and to team managers Anita Richardson, Sarah James and Terry.
Thanks to Terry Hindle for the photos.
