Whilst nations from across the globe addressed the climate emergency in Sharm el-Sheikh, runners and spectators in Kenworthy Woods enjoyed historic warm temperatures approaching 20 degrees for the winter's 2nd MACCL match on the 12th of November 2022.

On this occasion the club had two team victories both in the women's sections. The U13 girls 'A' & 'B' teams repeated their first match success of 1st and 3rd with Liverpool again the 'meat in their sandwich'. OONAGH Mc MANUS won this match and was very closely followed with typically great runs by CAITLIN WETTERS in 3rd with LOLA RICHARDSON right on her shoulder in 4th. Their 'C' team were again 9th as in match one.

The senior women were the second victorious team. With two wins now in the bag, BEATRICE CORDINGLEY and LUCY ARMITAGE continuing their exciting front-running and ALICE WRIGHT an excellent 7th, the future looks bright for this squad to retain their Division 1 title. The section also turned out teams B to E teams all of whom were first in their divisions!

Trafford AC dominance in the four younger age-groups winning three, and their U17's winning three of the four top teams, Sale's U11, U15 and U17's had no choice but to be bridesmaids – or should it be 'grooms'?

With Salford absent in the U15 girls race, Sale moved into 3rd place behind Warrington and Stockport . EMMA PURDY showed real talent with an excellent 2nd followed by the team's backbone HANNAH SQUIBBS and MADELINE GILLAM.

You should have seen powerhouses NIGEL MARTIN, NICK BARRY and PHIL ROBERTSON in the men's race strain every sinew to doggedly stick with the leaders and then devour several in the final stages and you should have seen Nigel's lightening finish on the home straight to clinch 2nd place from Chorlton right on the line. Salford, Chorlton and Sale are shaping up to be a battle royale for the MACCL title. Salford so far have the edge from two victories but with Sale now rolled up its sleeves and pushed Chorlton into 3rd place, if they keep up that momentum they'll surely snatch victory from the jaws of Salford and retain their 2021 title. The section also turned out a great squad of teams B – G. Five of the six were first!

The veteran men and women are well placed on top of their divisions. Individually MATT BARNES was 1st M45, JACKIE CORDINGLEY 2nd L60 and ANNE CHINOY 3rd L45.

Onwards to Heaton Park for the 3rd match on Saturday December 3rd.
