The club’s young athletes had their best ever Northern Cross-Country Relay results in Sheffield winning five sets of championships medals and finishing first overall with the fastest aggregate time over the eight races.
Pride of place must go to our U13 boys of LUKE CARRINGTON, OSCAR SCHOFIELD, FREDDIE MEREDITH, JAMES O’BRIEN and FINLAY GODDARD who won this title to add to their Northern Road Relay title they won last month. Our U13 girls were bronze medallists in the Northern Road Relay but at Sheffield, although our team of AVA CLOUGH, IZZY APPLEBY and SARA CLOUGH ran really well to finish fourth team out of 49 starters, they missed out on medals by just eight seconds. Our B team of EVA KARALIUS, LIZ SINCLAIR and MADDY HOLT are all young enough to compete in this age-group next year and finished an encouraging third in their category.
The club’s most outstanding performance was LARA CRAWFORD who ran the fastest leg of the day in the U17 relay and teamed up with GEORGIA HEATH and EMILYKATE HALL to finish in silver medal position. Our B team of ANNOUSKA BROOKS, ROSE SINCLAIR and ROSANGELA SUMBO also finished runners up in their category. Our U17 men’s team of CHARLIE HOBSON, AIDAN LYNCH and ROBBIE RIGBY had their best result this winter to finish 9th team out of 33 starters.
The club’s U15’s was the only squad to medal in both the girl’s and boy’s relays. Our girls are the Gtr. Manchester Road Relay Champions and at Sheffield our team of KATIE STRINGER, LUCY DIXON and IZZY BURKE finished in bronze medal position whilst the B team of JASMINE REED, LIBBY HILL and KIRSTEN MACKIE finished runners-up. Our boy’s team of ELLIOT SAVAGE, JACK SPARK and EVAN SAVAGE were also bronze medallists whilst the B team of WILL STANWAY, JAMES KNOCKTON and CHARLIE TITTENSOR finished 6th in the race and 2nd in their category.
This was the first opportunity for our Primary aged athletes to compete at this level and they really rose to the occasion. Our U11 boy’s team of LIAM O’BRIEN, ISAAC REED (on his club debut) and BEN KEELEY finished in silver medal position whilst our B team of DANIEL OAKES, MATTY CULLEN-BROWN and ALEX FRASER finished 2nd in their category. Our U11 girl’s A team of IMOGEN HILL, IZZY HALL and OONAGH Mc MANUS ran well to finish 5th team whilst our B team of AVA BYGRAVE, SIENNA JONES and LALI BROWN finished runner-up in their category. The performances of these four team show we have one of the strongest Primary squads in the North of England and I look forward to seeing them compete in the Manchester League at Kenworthy Woods on November 9th.
Sale senior men had one team and were strong enough to finish 3rd place comprising DAIEL KASHI, JAMES WIGNALL, WILLIAM ONEK and ALEX BRADFORD. The ladies A team were 7th with SOPHIE WOOD, AINE CUNNINGHAM and LYDIA BRIGGS. Sophie achieving the 5th fastest time of the day.
