PETER SHAW
The cross-country season started in earnest for Sale Harriers with a home match in a very muddy Wythenshawe Park. Our teams performed well finishing 1st overall with the best aggregate score over the six races. The match started well with FREDDIE MEREDITH winning the U13 boy’s race whilst LUKE CARRINGTON finished 3rd on his club debut and with FINLAY GODDARD and FINLAY DAY our team finished 2nd to Wirral. The U13 girls finished 5th team and 2nd ‘B’ team. Well done to IZZY APPLEBY, LIZ SINCLAIR, ELLIE GILDART, EVA KARALIUS, MADDY HOLT and HOLLY NOLAN.
Our U15 girls are the current league champions and started a defence of their title with a resounding team victory. LUCY DIXON made a tremendous club debut in 4th place whilst IZZY BURKE and AKIRA EDGSON completed the winning team. We were also convincing winners of the ‘B’ team category. Well done to JASMINE REED, LIBBY HILL, OLIVIA BROWN and OLIVIA NOLAN. In the U15 boy’s race, Northern Champion JACK SPARK (6th) teamed up with WILL PARKER and CHARLIE TITTENSOR, for third placed team, with ED LORD AND GEORGE NOBLE running well against very strong opposition. JESS SPILSBURY (2nd place) ran exceptionally well in the U17 women’s race and, with ANOUSKA BROOKS, and ROSANGELA TERIM, finished 2nd team. CHARLOTTE LORD and ELLIE COLQUHOUN-LYNN ran well too. The next match is on November 9th at Kenworthy Woods and will feature the start of the U11 championship in which we medalled last year in both the boys and girls age-groups. The Arrowe Park race in Birkenhead has now changed dates from the 7th to Sunday the 8th. Please pass the word around.
Thank you to all the people who helped at Wythenshawe Park, the weather had ruled out using the field for parking and the marshals did a fantastic job guiding the cars to suitable places to abandon their vehicles. The volunteers who laid out the course and marshalled the races must also be applauded, the course was challenging and back to the traditional mud bath that we all expect.
