WEEKEND HEADLINES 26th/27th November 2022.

Thea Brown

U17 THEA BROWN continued her incredible year and added the SIAB International Schools Pentathlon Championship title to her amazing collection. She also did it in style with a fantastic PB in the 60m hurdles of 8.57 seconds which earned 1000 points in her pentathlon.

GEORGIA TAYLOR-BROWN finished a gallant 2ndto Bermuda's Olympic & Commonwealth Champion Flora Duffy who claimed her record 4thWTCS World Championship Title in Abu Dhabi.

Following an epic season both came to the Final with three wins apiece. Georgia had won at Yokohama in May becoming the first European woman in a decade to win in Yokohama. She won again in the stifling heat of Montreal in June and in Cagliari in October she secured her 3rd win over Flora Duffy leaving them neck-and -neck going to the weekend's final. In a stunning battle between the two, both were locked together throughout the swim and bike phases but a decisive move by Flora Duffy in the run gave her the WTCS World Title.

SUCCESS EDUAN and LEONARDO SCOTT were recognised in the 2022 Manchester Sports Awards held at the Kimpton Tower Hotel in Manchester. Inspirational Success won the “Senior Sports Achiever” for having won the England Athletics U20 Championships Indoor and Outdoor 200m then represented GB & NI at the World U20 Championships in Colombia where she reached the semi-finals. Leonardo won the 'Junior Young Achiever of the Year” Award for his part in Gtr. Manchester's team at July's ESSA England Schools Athletics Championships where he reached the semi-finals. Both are coached by ANITA RICHARDSON and her team at Sportcity. (Anita won last year's “Community Coach Award”).

OSCAR SCHOFIELD showed awesome class in the U17 race at the British Athletics Cross Challenge in Liverpool which hosted the European Cross Country Championships Trials. From the gun, he impressively took the race by the scruff of the neck looking very strong throughout and continued to crank up the pressure to eventually reduce the lead group to just four. On the final lap it became a two horse race between him with Isaac Morris (Cambridge & Coleridge) sticking to his shoulder like glue and to break away in the final 800m for Oscar to miss victory by just a whisker!

Other super performances in this classy fields from throughout Britain were DANIEL OAKES 11thin the U13 race, IZZY HALL 25thin the U15 race, AKIRA EDGSON (41st), LUCY ARMITAGE (46th) and KATIE STRINGER 58th) in the Junior Women's race and SARAH GOULDEN (148th) in the senior race.
