Northern Cross Country Relays
Peter Shaw and Dave Marsh
The club took part in the Northern Cross country relays held at Graves Park, Sheffield winning 4 sets of medals.
The most successful team was our u13 boys who finished runners up, only 6 seconds behind winners Derby. The team consisted of James Kelly, Jack Spark and Harry Edmundson. The B team who also made the top 10 was 1st B team and for their efforts awarded a set of Northern medals. This age group has such strength in depth that we were also 1st C team. Well done to Charlie Tittensor, George Kattah, Will Parker, Ed Lord, Josh Colquhoun-Lynn, Archie McCarron, Harris Patterson and Jack Batten.
Our most successful girls’ team was our u13 girls who finished 5th and was agonisingly close to the medals. Well done to Taylor Edwards, Izzy Burke and Akira Edgson. Well done to the B team who finished 3rd B team with Olivia Brown, Ella Gillespie and Libby Hill.
In the u15 age group our girls team of Anouska Brooks, Laura Hole and Penny Townsend finished 12th Whilst the u17 girls team finished 13th, well done to Holly Jackson, Mia Gibbons and Tia Rae Barton.
Our highly energetic trio of Finlay Goddard, Joe Spark and Luke Kelly made a club debut in this event and finished a highly credible 20th position, all competed a year young and will be going for a top 3 finish in next year’s competition.
Solid performances came from our senior men and women’s teams who both secured bronze medals. The standout performance from the senior ranks came from Cesca Brint who had a brilliant first leg and was also 4th fastest leg of the day. Francesca was a member of last year’s winning u17 women’s team. Second leg was Claudia Cowan who like Francesca is also a first year u20!! The anchor leg was Ellen Downs who brought the team home in 3rd position in her club debut in a Championship event.
The men’s quartet of Jamie Roden, Luke Betts, Joe Vis and James Wignall also had a solid team performance with Jamie being the outstanding club performer of the day setting the bar high for the rest of the lads with a great first leg.
