Manchester League Cross Country - Heaton Park
The cross country season started in earnest with the first match of the Manchester League at Heaton Park, Manchester.
Our girls were in great form with individual winners in all 3 age groups plus 2 team victories. The match started with a resounding victory for reigning league champion Isabelle Burke in the u13 girls race, with Taylor Edwards in second place and Niamh Boyd in 7th. We had a comfortable team victory and will hope to retain the team title that we’ve held for 3 years. We also finished first B & C team in this age group, well done to Akira Edgson, Olivia Brown, Olivia Nolan, Ebony Robinson, Shona Wilkinson and Greta Brooks.
Lara Crawford won the u15 girls event by over a minute whilst Maisie Wiseman had an excellent run for 5th place, and with Penny Townsend they finished second team. Our B team of Laura Hole, Isabelle Key and Angel Okechukwu ran well to finish 3rd.
Steffi Moss and Holly Jackson had excellent cross country debuts for the club in the u17 women’s race. Steffi was a comfortable winner with club mate Beth Thornton runner up whilst Holly finish 5th to ensure team victory.
Danielle Fegan was first senior woman and the senior women’s team were first with Dani, Olivia Green, Emma Finney and Cara O’Brien. The B team were 10th and C team 21st. 1st vets team consisting of Emma Finney, Cara O’Brien and Kathy Wellam. Emma Finney was 2nd V35 and Jackie Cordingley 2nd V55.
In the u13 boys race Elliot Savage had a great cross country debt for the club to finish 3rd and with Jack Spark 4th and a much improved Luke Chinoy 11th they finished runners up in the team event. We also finished first B & C team in this age group. Well done to Will Parker, Charlie Tittensour, George Kattah, Archie McCarron, George Noble and Jack Ackers.
Alex James (the reigning u13 league champion) finished 14th in the u15 race whilst Yahya Agerso from the Diane Modahl Sports Foundation made his club debut to finish 22nd in the u17 men’s race.
In the senior men’s race Nigel Martin was 3rd and Joe Vis 7th. Matt Barnes was 1st V40, Paul Green 1st V45 and Aiden Raftery 4th V55. The senior men’s team 1st went to Nigel, Matt Barnes, Joe Vis, Paul Green, Alex Sutton and Sam Aspinall. The vet’s team prize went to Paul Green, Steve McCarron and Tom Fordyce.
The next match is on 11th November at Boggart Hole Clough and will feature the start of the u11 championship which our girls have won for the last 2 years. The Clough twins running at the Clough!!! The anticipation and excitement grows!!! Our u11 boys were runners up last year and will be trying to regain the title they won the year before.
