Young Athletes Northern XC Champs
The Northern Cross-Country Championships at Knowsley produced the club’s best overall team performances since the Millennium when the club won four team championships. This year we won three team races, one runners-up slot, two third places plus a 5th and a 7th team placing.
In the age-group races, the girls were amazing with team medals in every age-group. Pride of place goes to the U15 girls race in which LARA CRAWFORD had an outstanding run to finish 3rd. Lara led her team of AINE GIBBONS, LULU GRIFFITHS and JESS SPILSBURY to a comfortable team victory. Amazingly, the 3rd team to finish was another Sale team consisting of HANNAH WITCHALLS, ANOUSKA BROOKS, BETH THORNTON & MAISIE WISEMAN. Well done to all eight girls and long may their dominance continue.
Our U17 women have won Northern Road Relay and Cross-Country Relay titles in this age-group but last year lost the cross-country championship by one point and were determined to make amends. County Champion FRANCESCA BRINT had her best ever cross-country performance to finish 4th with AINE CUNNINGHAM 7th, plus OLIVIA GREEN and CLAUDIA COWAN not far behind. They won the team title this year by a massive 61 points.
The U13 girls were in great form and finished runners up to the powerful Hallamshire team. We showed tremendous packing with all four girls finishing within seven seconds of each other. NIAMH BOYD and KATIE STRINGER were our first two counters with their best races for the club, and were followed by County Champions ISABELLE BURKE and RUBY BELL. Congratulations to our ‘B’ team of ROSIE SINCLAIR, AKIRA EDGSON, OLIVIA BROWN and LIBBY HILL who finished 11th team, good enough to be possibly the first ‘B’ team.
RACHEL HIBBERD had a great run to finish 13th and with JULIET DOWNS and EMMA TILLEY (making her club debut) finished 3rd team.
The outstanding Sale Harrier in the boy’s races was ALEX JAMES who finished 10th in the U13 boys and team up with JAMES KELLY, CHARLIE TITTENSOR and ARCHIE Mc CARRON to finish a highly creditable 7th team. Congratulations to JOE BLAKEMORE, LUKE CHESTERS, JAKE SPILSBURY and PAUL MAGNER who all finished in the first 50 of the older boy’s races – excellent performances at this level
