Northern Cross Country Champs 2017
There was some great racing at the weekend at the Northern CC Champs in a muddy Knowsley Safari Park near Liverpool.
A great team Gold for the Senior Men and when the B team score was added up, they were 11th, 9th if last year’s winner, Charlie Hulson would have finished the race, very tough and upsetting for him, he will have to try to win the National again at the end of Feb. Jaimie Roden the Derbyshire Champion was 4th, a few seconds from Bronze. Then we had the experience of Matt Bond, and masters Paul Green, Matt Barnes and Gaz Raven, with Nigel Martin stopping a few times with shoe problems, but battling back to crucially pass people on the finish run in.
Under 20's had a couple of late withdrawals, otherwise would have been top 3.
The Women had a great Georgia Taylor-Brown in Bronze, with Danielle Fegan 6th and the team in 5th, just 8 places from Bronze medals. The B team would have been in 15th place; despite two of ours having to drop out of the race, along with many starters, but our under 20 women did have a great Bronze team medal result, Rachael Hibberd, Juliet Downs and Emma Tilley. They were trying to match a marvellous Under 17 Women's Team Gold.
At the North Wales champs, Iolo Hughes retained his senior men's title despite being still an under 20. Dan Kashi was 5th.
Out on the fells Andy Carlin had a great 4th place in the Mast Race 10K road and fell, 5k up Winter Hill and 5k down.
I was told he was the one who triggered 5:30m/ml tempo pace on the recent Tuesday night, Trafford Park run.
